路遥知马力, 日久见人心
quote from Rae..
…………meaning
路途遥远才能知道马的力气大小,
日子长了才能看出人心的好坏。
coincidental?
“You cant describe great cosmic significance to a simple earthly event. Coincidence, thats all anything ever is, nothing more than coincidence. There are no miracles. There is no such thing as fate. Nothing is meant to be.”
- 500 Days of Summer -
i remember Kenny telling me before, that believing in fate is an easy excuse for those who fail and not try again. it’s a fatalistic thought but in hindsight, it’s well, sadly true. how many people out there give up and say it’s all fated in whatever they do? relationships, career etc. how hard or how many times have they tried before throwing hands up and say it’s all fated? i am one of those who had said that at some point in my life, but now i have learnt to use the word ‘fate’ more carefully, with more thought and consideration. i am not as fatalistic to abandon the word ‘fate’ for i believe that there are still some beyond-comprehension miracles that can happen in everyday life. call them coincidences? perhaps.
when i begin to assess life’s disappointments and regrets in an objective manner (pardon the pun, objective?! haha), i learn about myself, my fears in facing certain things about myself and most of the times, i play a part in the outcomes. mistakes? sometimes you made them even though you never thought you would. 人很奇怪。
nowadays, whenever i retract about a decision made, i only have to remember what my chum says, ‘what have you got to lose in this?’
钻牛角尖
heehaw! okay abit random about the title of this post. i was just trying to establish the origin of this chinese idiom. it basically means pulling by a bull’s horn, going in circular motion (visualise please!) - which means you get to nowhere about a current situation. i am beginning to learn about origins of chinese idioms in my weekly classes and it’s pretty fun. every character in the idiom has very important significance to the entire meaning. that’s what makes Chinese so rich and difficult to master because most of us would probably know the meaning as a phrase but not its individual significance.
came across the quote below. thought it is kind of nicely written and well meaning-ed.
“At this moment there are 6,470,818,671 people in the world. Some are running scared. Some are coming home. Some tell lies to make it through the day. Others are just not facing the truth. Some are evil men, at war with good. And some are good, struggling with evil. Six billion people in the world, six billion souls. And sometimes…all you need is one.”

知之为知之,不知为不知,是知也。
quote
“To be successful you have to be selfish, or else you never achieve. And once you get to your highest level, then you have to be unselfish. Stay reachable. Stay in touch. Don’t isolate.”
- Michael Jordan -
agree?
not losing integrity and conscience in the process of course.
