co co chanel
just watched Co Co Avant Chanel (Co Co before Chanel) at AF. absolutely loving it! the same sort of awe i get after watching The September Issue starring Anna Wintour, Vogue’s Chief Editor.
i love the fashion world. not the korean japanese blah blah sort… but the classics. even the word fashion sounds crass, to be honest. because fashion is temporal. but style is forever. i always think style is innate. it is probably one of the few things you can’t really learnt. the furthest you can go is to imitate. some imitate well, some are complete disasters. almost everyone of us is probably an imitator of sorts, to varying degrees. i haven’t yet come across any (in my social circle) who truly is an original, but i totally love a couple of my chums’ way of effortless coordination to stand out. style is something associated with the person forever, not something that’s followed, abandoned and next. true style is timeless and it’s not about the clothes anymore, it’s about the person..the personality..the body language..the eye contact..the speech…
co co is a woman way ahead of her times. the way she scoffs at the ladies’ lack of personality around her, the fierce independent spirit within her, the absolute control she has over her emotions, the way she loves her man yet retains her own self identity, the intellect she has displayed without qualms in front of men, is at times funny and elegant at the same time. her sense of style is epic. i love all her combi of clothes! the classic stripes. the high waisted combi. the string of luminous pearls. the plum lipstick. and to think she is the one who has kickstarted the whole style of masculine look for women, awesome. her defying of conventions ‘women wear clothes for herself, not for men’ is indeed a leap of faith for many in those days, (or perhaps even now). it is precisely her strength of mind and independent thoughts, touched with the air of feminity, that enraptures the men in her life.
‘women, when in love, are just like dogs.’

I think it is she who said “Fashion fades but style is forever”
