Bangkok

ok. my verdict of Bangkok. liking it!
loving the food, vibes, and fun. it’s a pity this 4 day trip was alittle of a rush and jam packed but i had good fun with the folks. finally met the thai ex colleagues and they were really hospitable and funny guys.
food wise, i had the best tom yam, steamed squid and fish thus far. massage wise, thai massage near siam centre was the bomb. 120 minutes of massage and i wished i could go back for more. it was painful but the aftermath feeling was superb. much better than the one i had in KL and Sabah i must say.
i like bangkok. this city is eccentric and full of quirks. the traffic is a pain and certain parts confuse the hell out of me (but maybe because i am topo idiot ..oh well). i love thai tea and thai coffee and i absolutely love the noodles by the side of the roads. those with porkie and pig blood curds, my friends, they are the best.
we didn’t travel much to the outskirts due to time constraints but it was good enough to stay in the city. so many things to see! ‘ladies boys’, ‘ping pong girls’ and boys street ..we sorta had a ‘taste’ of that on our first night. while some scenes were alittle discomforting, we basically just gasped and moved on. but it was also that night we had some really good fried chicken that would rock the pants off Kentucky. hehehehe. haha. my mates were a funny bunch. i tried some fried ant larvae with egg (it was nice before i knew what it was…) and i had my fair share of mosquitoes love. those pests loved me so much i was too worried my legs would be scarred. we took the train and missed some stops. we walked abit, only to realise it was in the wrong direction. we got irritated for a few moments, laughed them off and made stupid jokes with dunkin donuts. by the way, we took enough tuk tuks to save our life. it’s like some old school mini coopers with antique engines and 3 wheels. it was fun zipping through the traffic jams. keke! my only grip was traffic as usual, and the way the animals were being made to earn money. while it is the way of life, i couldn’t help but feel for the doggies. there was this dog made to perform by responding to his owner’s instructions and there were these 3 pups being ‘displayed’ to beg for money (for their food). obviously i ‘donated’. as much as it was a ’sympathy’ trick, i gave in.
and shoppinggg!!! i succumbed despite announcing i won’t. dumb. hehe. but i totally love the quirky street cred and sneakers shops! so naarce. for a while i was thinking how could singapore fight with this city in terms of fashion? of course i would be back. this time round, i want to spend time taking pictures. be less hurried, travel to outskirts and see more fireflies!
bangkok is full of contrasts and paradoxes. i could even see a visual theme for this city, although it had been done to death. nonetheless one day i would love to go back and do this.
last but not least, my hosts were great. my friends rocked too.
